Trézor.io/Start — Starting Up™ Your Device | Trezor®®
Welcome to Trezor — Start Securing Your Crypto
Congratulations on choosing Trezor — the world’s leading hardware wallet designed to give you total control over your digital assets. Whether you’re new to crypto or an experienced holder, Trezor makes protecting your tokens and keys simple, secure, and stress‑free.
This page will guide you step‑by‑step through your Trezor setup so you can start managing your crypto with peace of mind.
What Is Trezor?
Trezor is a hardware wallet — a physical device that stores your private keys offline, far away from hackers and malware. With Trezor, your private keys never leave the device, and signing transactions happens inside the hardware itself. This means your crypto stays safe even if your computer or phone is compromised.
Why Start with Trezor?
Maximum Security: Your private keys remain offline and protected.
Easy to Use: Intuitive interface and clear setup steps.
Multi‑Asset Support: Store Bitcoin, Ethereum, and thousands of other tokens.
Open‑Source: Community‑audited software for transparency and trust.
Peace of Mind: Built‑in recovery tools and secure backup options.
If you’re ready to take control of your crypto, let’s get started.
Step 1 — Unbox Your Trezor
Inside the box you’ll find:
Your Trezor device
USB cable
Recovery seed cards
Quick start guide
Before you proceed, make sure your package is sealed and untampered. Trezor devices ship with security seals — never use your Trezor if the seals are broken.
Step 2 — Connect Your Trezor
Plug your Trezor into your computer using the USB cable.
Visit Trezor.io/Start in your browser.
Follow the prompts to install the Trezor Suite — the official Trezor companion app.
Trezor Suite works on Windows, macOS, and Linux. If you’re on a mobile device, you can also connect using compatible USB‑C or Lightning adapters.
Step 3 — Initialize Your Device
Once connected, you’ll be prompted to either Create a new wallet or Recover an existing one. Select Create new wallet unless you are restoring from a backup.
You’ll be guided through:
🔐 Choosing a PIN
Your PIN protects access to your Trezor. You’ll enter it directly on your computer screen — but the layout changes each time, preventing keyloggers from guessing inputs.
📜 Writing Down Your Recovery Seed
Trezor will display a recovery seed phrase (12–24 words). This seed is your only backup in case your device is lost, damaged, or stolen. Important:
Write the words in order on the provided recovery cards.
Store them somewhere safe and private.
Never share your seed with anyone — no one from Trezor or support will ask for it.
Step 4 — Secure Your Seed Phrase
This step is critical. Your recovery seed is the master key to all of your funds:
✔ Don’t take photos. ✔ Don’t type it into your computer. ✔ Don’t store it online.
Consider using additional physical backup tools like metal plates for disaster‑proof protection.
Step 5 — Add & Manage Your Crypto
Once setup is complete, Trezor Suite shows your wallet dashboard. Here you can:
📌 Receive funds 📌 Send crypto securely 📌 View balances 📌 Manage multiple accounts and assets
Trezor supports popular coins including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and many ERC‑20 tokens. Additional integration tools like third‑party wallets can expand compatibility further.
Advanced Features to Explore ⭐ Passphrase Protection
Add an extra word to your seed phrase for advanced security — like a “hidden wallet” accessible only with that secret.
🔁 Firmware Updates
Keep your device software up to date to ensure you benefit from the latest security improvements.
🤝 Third‑Party Wallet Support
Trezor works with wallets like MetaMask and Electrum for advanced trading, DeFi access, and more.
Safety Best Practices
Your security is in your hands:
🔐 Never share your recovery seed. 🎯 Always verify addresses on the Trezor screen before confirming. 🛑 Beware of phishing — always visit the official Trezor site or Suite. 📦 Use only genuine Trezor devices — counterfeit hardware is unsafe.
